Improv example videos

I recorded these videos in my home with a friend of mine called Mark Speed who performed a solo comedy show 2 years running at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. This first video features an improv game where one person says a word, the other person follows with another word to advance a story, and the alternating continues until the story reaches an ending…

In this next game, Mark picks 2 words out of a book at random, and I have to be an interviewee and talk about those 2 words in some kind of meaningful way…

Mark got me to close my eyes, he walked round my apartment, picked up a random object, then handed it to me and asked me to talk about it in relation to product creation…

I make up a story and Mark keeps interrupting me to say “no you didn’t!” so I had to change the story on the fly…

In this next game, Mark decides on an action he wants me to perform then invites me back into the room to work out the task with Mark only saying the word “yes”.

The camera zooms are done in an app for the Mac called ScreenFlow (which is like Camtasia for PC)…

I highly recommend you try these exercises with a friend or your partner. You’ll have a lot of fun, and you’ll improve your communictaions skills.
